We are excited to share the great news that CTC’s founder WIM Ellen Wang has accepted the invitation to play at the 2022 US Girls Junior Chess Championship to be held on July 5th to 17th at the world famous Saint Louis Chess Club.
This elite tournament is the most prestigious championship in the country for girl players under the age of 20. Representing the future of US Women’s chess, 10 invitees will showcase their superb chess knowledge and skills in the format of round robins.
Let us wish Ellen the best for her debut in Saint Louis!
In recognition of Unruly Queens (UQ) as the next generation of chess advocates for aspiring young women, National Scholastic Chess Foundation (NSCF) and Internet Chess Club (ICC) extended UQ an invitation to the first-ever NSCF / ICC Awards Dinner at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge on Thursday, May 19.
This event is part of the celebration for the 2022 FIDE Year of the Woman in Chess (https://www.fide.com/news/1522), and honors four women who have made a lifetime contribution to chess in the New York region: the late International Arbiter Carol Jarecki, Director of Dalton School Chess Program WIM Beatriz Marinello, Principal of Hunter College Elementary School Dawn Roy, and Chess Organizer at ICA New Jersey Diane Tulman.
UQ is very proud to be part of this celebration and looks forward to connecting with the female chess leaders in the area!
At the invitation of CTC’s founder WIM Ellen Wang, WIM Evelyn Zhu wrote for the Chess Connections Magazine about her inspiring comeback story at 2019 New York State Girls Championship.
College bound to MIT, Zhu reflected on her memorable games in the tournament. She annotated on the brilliant moves as well as blunders by both sides of the games, pausing at the critical and thrilling moments of the play to share with her readers how she evaluated the positions and made decisions. She recounted her mistakes, both psychological and technical, that will echo with many chess players at various levels.
Zhu’s article will be published in the upcoming summer issue of Chess Connections Magazine (https://chessconnections.org).
