In addition to being a contributor to Chess Life and Chess Life Online, the official publications of US Chess Federation, WIM Ellen Wang was appointed in June 2023 Co-Editor-in-Chief of Chess Connections Magazine, a student-run free online quarterly chess publication striving to connect youth players around the world, to showcase their versatile talents in writing and drawing, to voice out their opinions, and to build an inclusive chess community with greater diversity. Prior to this position, Ellen was Managing Editor and Designer of the magazine for two years since its debut in 2021. Besides her deep involvement in the solicitation, editing and designing processes, she has been endeavoring to recruit new staff writers and designers, and to ensure the timely publication of the magazine. Ellen’s greatest contribution is her longtime commitment to increasing the representation of girl players in the chess world through chess journalism. Her dedicated effort has brought many top girl players on board, including interviews with WGM Jennifer Yu, IM Annie Wang, WGM Thalia Cervantes, WFM Sophie Morris-Suzuki, and IM Carissa Yip, IM Alice Lee, as well as submissions by WIM Evelyn Zhu, WIM Zoey Tang, WIM Kelsey Liu, WFM Megan Paragua and many more rising chess girl stars. In 2023, Ellen was given Special Achievement Award by Chess Journalists of America, the organization that promotes the highest standards of ethics in chess journalism and influences policies affecting the promotion of chess.
